Flamingos Set to Face Algeria in Final U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier
Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, will battle Algeria in the final qualifying round for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. The Nigerian girls secured their spot after a dominant 5-1 aggregate victory over South Africa’s Bantwana, winning 3-1 in Pretoria and 2-0 in Ikenne.
Algeria, on the other hand, advanced after a 4-0 victory over Botswana, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
The first leg of the final qualifier will take place between April 18-20, 2025, with the return leg scheduled for April 25-27, 2025. The winner of the two-legged tie will secure one of the four available spots for Africa at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, joining hosts Morocco, who have an automatic qualification.
Other key final-round fixtures include:
Kenya vs Cameroon
Zambia vs Benin
Ivory Coast vs Guinea
This is the last hurdle for the Flamingos as they aim to secure a place in yet another FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, a tournament where they finished third in 2022 after defeating Germany in a penalty shootout.
Editorial
The Flamingos’ qualification to the final round of the U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers is another testament to Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football at the youth level. Over the years, the team has consistently performed well in continental and global competitions, proving that Nigeria remains one of the strongest forces in African women’s football.
However, the game against Algeria will not be easy. At this stage of qualification, every team is fighting for a place at the biggest stage in youth football.
